METROPOLITAN CELEBRATE WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY

Metropolitan’s Canon Image Square joined hands with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, and the State Photography Festival Organizers to celebrate World Photography Day recently with a technology presentation on the future of photography conducted by renowned photographer and trainer Mr.Teo Peng Kee from Canon Malaysia.

Mr.Teo Peng Kee shared views on ‘Technological Advancements and Future Direction in Photography’ to the audience of photographers and cinematographers at the World Photography Day celebrations and State festival of Photography. He introduced the latest EOS R technology which has enriched the photography experience through its enhanced features that include auto face tracking, real time viewing, 4k UHD recording , Canon Log Gamma, Dual pixel CMOS Sensor AF, and ability to focus in the dark down to –EV6 plus, and extreme weather resistance.

The Ministry also felicitated two outstanding personalities whose contribution to culture, photography, cinematography and preservation of the arts have fostered the growth of the photography industry and the conservation of local art at this event.

Cinematographer P U D Perera and Photographer Gamini Jayasinghe were awarded with the highest honor of Chayaroopabhimani at a ceremony held by the Cultural Ministry, under the patronage of Minister of Cultural Affairs Hon.Sajith Premadasa.

P U D Perera is a veteran cinematographer who has achieved greatness through his tireless work in the field of Sri Lankan photography as a film director, producer and director of photography. Gamini Jayasinghe is an expert photographer, and perhaps has the most comprehensive photo archive of the country's rich tradition of temple art. Covering some sixty temples located throughout the island, the photographs have captured and preserved on film, the exquisite quality of these ancient works of art.

“We are proud and honored to recognize these two great individuals whose efforts in the cinema, film and photography over the last 4 decades have made a true impact in shaping the growth and appreciation of these arts,” said Ms.Anusha Gokula Fernando, Director Department of Cultural Affairs.

The event which was sponsored by Canon Image Square and Metropolitan, also recognized the contribution by many professional and amateur photographers during the ‘Bright Exposure 2019’ photography competition which was orgaised by the Arts Council, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Department of Cultural Affairs and the State Advisory Council for Photography.
